Transportation Planning Services

transportation servicesGeoStats has a strong history of providing innovative services to clients involved in a wide range of transportation planning projects.

GeoStats offers transportation planning services in the following areas:

Transportation Model Support

Transportation planning models continue to evolve and are becoming increasingly data intensive.  GeoStats has the expertise to support model development efforts such as network coding, TAZ editing, operations data collection, and socio-economic data integration.  GeoStats also has the analytical experience to conduct post-model analyses (including congestion ranking, emissions analysis, select-link, etc.).

Past projects include:

  • Georgia DOT Statewide Transportation Plan 2006
  • Downtown Atlanta Bus Circulator Model (Georgia) 2007
  • Adaptation of a planning model for facility location analysis (private client), 2008
  • Estimating Trip Emissions for Puget Sound Region (Washington state) , 2003-4
  • SMARTRAQ GIS support, 2002

Congestion Management Process (CMP)

GeoStats has participated on consultant teams for several CMP and CMS projects over the last few years.  Our role has been to identify congestion monitoring areas and to evaluate levels of congestion along a network.  Congestion data typically comes from field data collection and travel demand forecasting model results.

Past projects include:

  • Atlanta Regional Commission Congestion Management Process (Georgia) 2006 - 2007
  • Chattanooga Congestion Management Process (Tennessee) 2006
  • Greenville Congestion Management Process (South Carolina) 2007

System Performance Evaluation

Similar to our work on CMP projects, GeoStats has performed a range of services that measure the performance of transportation systems.  Such projects are typically concerned with measuring the impact of interventions on the street network and include both “before” and “after” measurements of travel time or delay.  GeoStats makes heavy use of its in-house expertise in this area, using its TravTime software to efficiently perform analyses of large-scale performance evaluation studies.

Transportation Data Integration

GeoStats’ experience with large transportation datasets has allowed us to participate in regional planning studies that have significant data integration needs.  GeoStats has developed and employed innovative geospatial analyses such as combining disparate linearly referenced datasets, developing accessibility contours, integrating performance measures, emissions modeling, path-building and network loading of origin-destination (OD) data, and applying visual-analytics to transportation planning data.

GeoStats is experienced in extracting tabular and spatial data from a variety of file formats and database servers.  Our team of professionals has experience working with a variety of databases, including SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, ESRI Geodatabases, Microsoft Access, and xBase flat-files.  We also offer custom software development services.

Past projects include:

  • Georgia DOT Project Prioritization Project, 2008-2009
  • Cobb County Comprehensive Transportation Plan, 2006-2007
  • Georgia DOT Traffic Management Center Archived Data Quality Assessment, 2003-2005
  • Georgia DOT Traffic Management Center Archived Data Quality, 2005
