GeoStats has a strong history of providing innovative services
to clients involved in a wide range of transportation planning projects.
GeoStats offers transportation planning services in the following areas:
GIS and Transportation Data Analytics
GeoStats custom develops innovative data integration and analytics to meet stated
project and task objectives. Our team includes subject experts, experienced analysts,
and software developers thereby providing fully scalable solutions – from simple
data integration tasks to fully interactive visualization software tools. Selected
examples of past solutions are provided below.
- Georgia statewide truck crash analysis for the 2010-2011 GDOT
Freight and Mobility Plan
- Integration of economic, environmental, goods movement, demographics
and infrastructure data into a single GIS framework for corridor analysis (2011
GDOT Corridor Studies)
- Development of conceptual alignment alternative maps across
three states for the 2010-2011 FHWA 14th Amendment Highway project
- Development of automated data cleaning and aggregation techniques
for detailed freight mobility data (GPS) as part of the 2008 NCFRP Project 06
- Development of software for building a performance measures
database of proposed projects embedded within existing GDOT database structures
(2007-2010 GDOT Project Prioritization Process)
- Development of web-based software tool for estimating project
cost estimates (2008 GDOT Cost Estimation Toolkit)
System Performance Evaluation
GeoStats custom develops innovative data collection and analysis techniques to evaluate
the extent, duration, and intensity of traffic congestion and other transportation
related delays. GeoStats also conducts before-after studies to evaluate the impacts
of changes in traffic operations from signal timing and other system changes. Financial,
time, fuels, emissions, and safety benefits can all be estimated.
Examples of past projects include:
- Bi-annual monitoring of 12 major corridors, 2010-2015 GDOT
Regional Traffic Operations Program
- Evaluation of real-time traffic data quality ( 2006-2011,
See Telematics Services.)
- Before/after probe vehicle studies, 2008-2011 GDOT Statewide
Signal Timing Program
- Development of data integration issues assessment, 2008 NCHRP
8-67
- Before/after probe vehicle studies, 2005-2009 GDOT Metro Atlanta
Signal Timing Program
- Annual monitoring of congestion, 2006-2010, City of Sandy
Springs, Georgia
Transportation Model Support
Transportation planning models continue to evolve and are becoming increasingly
data intensive. Beyond our core experience in market research technology, GeoStats
also has the expertise to support model development efforts such as network coding,
TAZ editing, data collection, and socio-economic data integration. GeoStats has
experience in conductive innovative post-model analyses (including congestion ranking,
emissions analysis, select-link, etc.).
Examples of past projects include:
- Georgia statewide truck crash analysis for the 2010-2011 GDOT
Freight and Mobility Plan
- Numerous studies capturing segment speeds using GPS probe
vehicles for use in simulation on travel demand model development
- Macroscopic model development for retail store location (private
customer, 2009)
- Base data and network development for the 2005 GDOT Statewide
Model
- Select link analysis for a market study of the SR 400 Tollway
(2005)
